Sunday Sketchblog #46

Visit Emma and a new joiner-inner to our very exclusive Sunday Sketchblog club, Hayley at Pogle Paints, to see what's emerged onto the pages of their sketchbooks this week.

Sunday Sketchblog #45

I've just realised the date on this sketch is from November! There will be some newer sketches soon, I promise...

Anyway, EDM #31 is 'draw something you collect'. I'm not a great collector of things just for the sake of having them, so all I could spot that seemed to fit the theme was this change pot. I guess we all collect money (unless you're some sort of monk and have made a vow of poverty, perhaps) to various extents.

I think Emma's managed to keep sketching throughout Christmas and New Year - see what she's been drawing this week.

Sunday Sketchblog #43

EDM#30 - drawing a chair was not very inspiring, as I drew the bottle of evening primrose oil capsules sitting on my desk instead.

Sunday Sketchblog #42

EDM #29 asks you to draw something architectural. This is yet another bit of the view from my office window, but I don't think I've drawn it before. I love how the tops of the buildings are so fancy and ornate, but you never notice them when you're rushing about on the pavement.

This is the corner of Bond Street and Piccadilly - I like to think of it as my private view of somewhere very public and famous.

Emma's was powering through the EDMs last week - visit The Gift Shed to see if she's got any further.

Sunday Sketchblog #41

EDM#28 - draw an appliance or anything else you like. For appliance I thought fridge, then coffee machine. But I was feeling lazy and didn't want to get up, so went with the anything else instead and drew my little Winsor and Newton paint box.

Emma's promised she doesn't spend her whole life sketching in pubs... so I wonder if she's found somewhere else to draw this week?

Sunday Sketchblog #40

EDM#27 was draw a book. I went for the little notebook I did all my self-portaits in. Which is itself a mini version of the book I do my EDMs in. Which are both Moleskine watercolour sketchbooks.

Emma had some lovely pub sketches last week... see where she's been this week?

Sunday Sketchblog #39

EDM #26 is draw anything you like. So I had a hunt for something I was pretty sure wouldn't be coming up in a future EDM and found this finger fright sitting atop a nail file. I like to think of him as a little presiding household god, a sort of googley eyed penate.

Sunday Sketchblog #38

EDM#24 is draw a piece of fruit.  I went for a kiwi, as it seemed to offer slightly more interesting textures than the everyday selection of apples and bananas.

I wasn't massively pleased with my first drawing though, so I ate it and tried again. Clearly needed the drawing-fuel as I like the second attempt a lot more.

Sunday Sketchblog #37

EDM#23 is draw your foot. As I've already done a shoe and my socks tend to be quite unremarkable, I figured it had better be a naked foot.

This might look a bit odd, but it's actually a pretty realistic depiction of my toes - for some reason they really are that slanty. Inappropriate but pretty shoes have a lot to answer for...

Sunday Sketchblog #36

Two EDMs this week, as they seemed to go together a little bit. EDM#21 is something old, antique or vintage and EDM#22 is a piece of clothing. As I didn't read ahead, I drew a vintage dress for #21 which meant I ended up with two clothes drawings in a row...

A bit different to each other though, as #21 is a vintage dress from a photo I had saved on my Pinterest...

and #22 is the coat stand in my office with various items of clothing draped over it.

Sunday Sketchblog #35

I'm guessing that EDM#20 must have originally been thought up on Father's Day, as it's 'draw something dad'.

My dad lives in Dorset, so wasn't available to be drawn. Instead I sketched a favourite photo of us together from when I was much smaller.

And the original...

Emma got off to a flying start with her EDMs last Sunday. I wonder how many she's managed this week?

Sunday Sketchblog #33

Draw a tree or trees, leaves or branches, said EDM #15. I was all set up to draw a tree, but then it got dark. So here's an indoor leaf instead, still attached to an apple from next door's allotment.

Sunday Sketchblog #32

EDM #13 is draw your phone. This is obviously the one on my desk, not the one I carry around in my handbag. Modern technology's all very well with its sleek little devices, but they're not much fun to draw!

Emma's just started EDM-ing too, so pop and see what she's done this week.

Sunday Sketchblog #31

EDM#12 is 'draw what you ate for dinner'. Unfortunately, it's pretty unrealistic that I'm going to make dinner and then let it get cold whilst I draw it... So I was going to draw what I ate for lunch instead, but forgot. This sketch is actually just 'some things I ate'.

Visit Emma to see if she's been inspired by anything sketch-worthy this week.

Sunday Sketchblog #30

EDM#10 (yes, I labelled this one wrong... I like to think I'm better at drawing than counting) is draw your hand or hands.

And, if you can read my scribble, this is the 'last time' sketch.

I've just noticed they're exactly a month apart - don't think my hands will have changed much in that period and hopefully I'll be drawing something else on the 3rd of October!

Sunday Sketchblog #29

EDM#8 is 'draw a bit of organised chaos'. A little spoilt for choice, I went for the paper-holder-thing on my desk.

It features: a post-it detailing a car no one I know owns any more, a picture of a mustard jar ripped from a magazine, an envelope to fill with used stamps for recycling, 20 Swedish Kronor (apparently worth about £1.80), some compliments slips, and the beginnings of a shopping list.

Reflection

This started out as EDM #11, draw your glasses or sunglasses, but I'm posting it today even thought it means the EDMs are going to get all out of synch!

I like it and it turned into something a bit more satisfying than just a quick sketch.

Sunday Sketchblog #28

Another EDM, #5, for this week's sketch. The subject is 'draw your bed'. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I get up first by quite a long stretch, I rarely see it empty...

EDM #2,3,4

My recent EDM Challenges:

EDM #2: Draw a desk lamp or other lamp.

EDM #3: Purses, wallets or bags

EDM #4: Draw your mug or cup

I'm really loving not having to think about what to draw, just how to best depict that day's challenge.

Everyday Matters - EDM #1

I think I mentioned a while ago that I've been reading some of Danny Gregory's books recently. Following on from one of them, Everyday Matters, the artist Karen Winters created a list of drawing challenges which I'm going to start trying to work my way through. Hopefully it will result in not having to resort to 'view out of my window' sketches for a while!

There's a facebook group where people who are participating can share their work - it's really interesting to see all the different interpretations of the same subjects.
